Kagurabachi doesn't premiere until April 2027, and Crunchyroll and the production committee are already several months into rolling out its cast one character at a time. The latest reveals, released the same day on the anime's official site, introduce Hinao and Char Kyonagi, each with a dedicated character visual and trailer.
The series follows Chihiro Rokuhira, a young swordsmith's apprentice who loses his father and his family's prized blades to a mysterious sorcerer group, and sets out to reclaim them and avenge his father using the seventh blade his father left behind. Hinao and Char are the next two characters filled in around that core cast.
Miku Ito voices Hinao, who works at Cafe Haru Haru and serves as a link between the underworld and the sorcerers hunting through it. Miyari Nemoto voices Char Kyonagi, described as a cheerful, courageous girl being pursued for reasons the story hasn't revealed yet. Both actors recorded comments for the announcement; Ito said she was drawn to how unusual Hinao is within the story even before landing the role, while Nemoto described getting the news directly from her manager and needing the script in hand before she believed it was real.
A Deliberate Drip Feed, Not a Delay
Doling out one or two characters per announcement, each with its own trailer, is a marketing choice, not a sign the production is behind schedule. Kagurabachi's manga has sold more than 4 million copies including digital editions since Takeru Hokazono began serializing it in Weekly Shonen Jump, and studio Cypic, known for Umamusume: Cinderella Gray and The Summer Hikaru Died, is handling the animation under director Tetsuya Takeuchi and character designer Keigo Sasaki. That's enough built-in attention that spacing out reveals over the better part of a year keeps the series in conversation without needing new plot details to do it.
Crunchyroll will stream Kagurabachi worldwide when it premieres, with one notable carve-out: Japan, mainland China, North Korea and South Korea are excluded from that Crunchyroll release, which typically means those territories get the show through separate local distribution deals instead. The Philippines isn't excluded, so PH viewers are covered under the same worldwide Crunchyroll window as most other markets.
Additional casting and production details are expected in further waves before the series airs.
