The Remarried Empress, one of the most-read romance fantasy webtoons around, is becoming a TV anime. LINE Digital Frontier, which runs the LINE Manga app in Japan, confirmed the adaptation on October 9 and set a 2027 broadcast window. Studio TROYCA is handling the animation.
The announcement came with a lot more than a logo. LINE Digital Frontier released a teaser PV, character art for the four leads and the main cast and staff in one go, which is unusual for an anime this far from air.
Four leads for an empire-sized divorce
The story follows Navier, the "perfect empress" of the Eastern Empire, whose husband Emperor Sovieshu falls for Rashta, a former slave he brings into the palace as his concubine. When Sovieshu demands a divorce, Navier answers by requesting approval to remarry Heinley, a prince of the Western Kingdom. That request is where the series gets its title.
The official cast list:
- Navier: Youko Hikasa
- Heinley: Ryouhei Kimura
- Sovieshu: Tomoaki Maeno
- Rashta: Reina Ueda
Tetsuya Yanagisawa directs. Akiko Inoue handles series composition and scripts, Jun Nakai does character design and Yuuki Fukazawa writes the music. The anime is produced by HAYATE.
Why a webtoon this big still needed the anime push
The numbers explain the bet. According to LINE Digital Frontier, the webtoon has passed 630 million cumulative views on LINE Manga in Japan as of October 2026, and more than 2.97 billion views globally as of July 2026. The original web novel is by Alphatart, with the webtoon illustrated by SUMPUL and adapted by HereLee.
Korean webtoons have become a reliable source for anime adaptations, and romance fantasy is a genre that tends to travel well. The Remarried Empress is one of the genre's best-known titles, so this is less a gamble on an unknown property and more a test of whether a vertical-scroll hit can hold up as a weekly TV series.
LINE Manga is also using the moment to pull in new readers. The first 20 episodes of the webtoon are free on the Japanese LINE Manga app from October 9 to 15.
Part of a bigger Crunchyroll webtoon deal
The show is one of the first titles under a new partnership between HAYATE, LINE Digital Frontier and Crunchyroll to adapt around 15 LINE Manga webtoons, announced at Crunchyroll's New York Comic Con showcase. Under that deal, Crunchyroll gets exclusive streaming rights to the finished anime in certain regions. The companies have not said which regions, and there is no specific 2027 premiere date yet.
For fans here, the webtoon is already available in English on WEBTOON under the title The Remarried Empress, so there is time to catch up. The teaser PV is on YouTube now, and more details are expected through the official site at saikon-anime.com and the official X account @Saikon_Anime.
