They just weren't the show carrying Summer 2026's marketing.
Black Torch Finished a Story Nobody Else Was Going to Tell
The most interesting ending of the season happened on a show with a fraction of Bleach's audience. Black Torch wrapped its 12-episode run on September 19, adapting all five volumes and 19 chapters of Tsuyoshi Takaki's manga, which is every chapter that exists. The manga was cancelled in 2018 before it could reach a real conclusion. The anime had nowhere else to go once it caught up, so it did something most cancelled-manga adaptations don't: it wrote an actual ending.
That's a genuinely uncommon position for an adaptation to be in. Most anime based on ongoing manga stop wherever the source material happens to be and leave the rest for a hypothetical next season. Black Torch's studio, One Double-O, and screenwriter Gigaemon Ichikawa were adapting a story with a hard stop built in from the start, and they used the full 12 episodes to land somewhere that reads as intentional rather than abandoned. It won't get a second season, because there's no more manga left to draw from. For a story that was denied a real ending once already, that's the whole point.
What the Season Actually Delivered
Summer 2026 will still be remembered for Bleach, eventually. But the season that just ended belongs to the shows that hit their dates without a delay announcement: two long-running franchises closing out on schedule, a Prime Video reboot that finished clean, and a nearly-forgotten manga getting the ending its own publisher never let it have. The headline event is still coming. It's just arriving under Fall's name instead.
