For years, LG's most efficient washers, fridges and dishwashers have been the expensive ones. At IFA 2026, the company said it's pushing that efficiency tech down into its broader appliance lineup instead of keeping it as a premium upsell, at a time when electricity costs remain a real line item for households everywhere, including in the Philippines.
The numbers are specific enough to matter. LG's flagship washing machine now exceeds A-grade efficiency requirements by up to 70 percent, and a washer-dryer combo beats A-grade by up to 30 percent on its Washing Only cycle and 10 percent on a full Wash and Dry cycle. Those come from Direct Drive Motor and precise inverter control tuned to optimize motor speed at each stage of a laundry cycle, plus Dual Inverter Heat Pump tech in LG's dryers that recycles heat within the system instead of venting it away.
The Push Downmarket Is the Actual Story
The more telling detail is a new mass-premium dryer LG is launching later this year that jumps from the previous B-grade rating to A-grade, using the same underlying technology LG previously reserved for its top-tier models. That's the trickle-down LG is betting on: efficiency tech that used to justify a price premium is becoming the baseline expectation instead.
Refrigerators get the same treatment. Bottom-freezer models now exceed A-grade by up to 35 percent, and side-by-side and French door models hit A-grade outright, helped by an AI Saving mode that studies three weeks of usage data before adjusting cooling automatically during low-activity periods.
Dishwashers see the biggest jump in reach: nearly LG's entire new range now carries an A-grade rating, thanks to a redesigned compact drive unit that cuts water use, and therefore the energy needed to heat it, alongside an improved inverter motor. Models with Hybrid Air Dry push energy savings up to 30 percent past A-grade, and the new AI SenseClean feature builds custom cycles from up to 32 variables for lightly soiled loads instead of running every load through the same settings.
LG Home Appliance Solution Company president Baek Seung-tae framed it as turning "top-tier energy performance" into "the new standard for all our customers," rather than a premium option. The expanded lineup is on display at LG's Energy Leadership Zone, Hall 18, Messe Berlin, through IFA 2026, which runs September 4 to 8.
