Kouta Kawae's Weekly Shonen Jump series Nue's Exorcist (Nue no Onmyouji) is getting a TV anime. The official site confirmed on October 12 that it will air in Summer 2027 on the TV Asahi network across Japan, and it opened with a teaser visual, a promo video and most of the main staff.

The most interesting name on that list is the director's, and the creator himself is the one who pointed out why.

A cute-girls director on a yokai action series

Hiroyuki Hashimoto is directing, with animation by Studio Hibari. In his comment on the official site, Kawae says Hashimoto's Is the Order a Rabbit? got him through his days as an office worker, and that having the same director reach out again now that he draws manga for a living moved him.

Hashimoto seems aware the pairing raises eyebrows. He wrote that the series is full of characters who are both cool and cute, then joked that this is probably why the job came to him. His promise is to keep the cute moments and the action without breaking the feel of the manga.

That is the real question for this adaptation. Nue's Exorcist is a supernatural action story first, and the fights need to land as hard as the character moments.

The rest of the team

  • Series composition: Hiroshi Seko
  • Sound director: Takayuki Yamaguchi
  • Music: MONACA, with Keiichi Okabe commenting for the team
  • Animation production: Studio Hibari

Okabe described the manga as a dark, serious world that sits naturally next to bright, poppy school life, and said that wide swing is exactly where MONACA's range fits.

Who voices who

Kaito Miura plays Gakuro Yajima, a boy who has been able to see the creatures called genyo since childhood and is kind enough to run other people's errands for them. Miura says it is his first lead role in an anime, and that he was already reading the manga before he auditioned.

Saori Onishi voices Nue, a mysterious genyo who spent 60 years sealed in a room at the school, waiting for someone to find her. Sayumi Suzushiro plays Suou, a second-year student and one of the school's three famously unapproachable beauties. Two more characters, Yoha Fujino and Tomesode, are listed with their voice actors still marked "coming soon."

What's still missing

There is no exact premiere date, episode count or overseas streaming partner yet, so Philippine viewers will have to wait to learn where it lands. The teaser visual and promo video are on the official site now.
