LG picked IFA 2026 to introduce ThinQ Claw, a chat-based AI agent for its smart home lineup, and the more revealing part of the announcement isn't the chatbot itself. It's what's powering the ecosystem underneath it: Homey, a smart home platform LG acquired from the Dutch startup Athom back in 2024.
ThinQ Claw is built on what LG calls "the concept of OpenClaw," tuned specifically for AI Home. In practice, it's a text interface that reads a household's schedules, routines and appliance usage, then acts on updates in context instead of treating each one as an isolated command. LG's example: tell it you're hosting guests, and it can prep cooking appliances on its own, or adjust the aircon before you get home based on current conditions. It also remembers preferences over time, the same pitch every conversational AI product makes about getting better with use.
The Real News Is Homey, Not the Chatbot
Homey is what makes the multi-brand promise possible. Acquired two years ago, it's designed to talk to connected devices across manufacturers rather than locking a household into LG-only hardware, which matters if LG wants its energy management pitch to actually work in homes full of other brands' appliances. At IFA, LG demonstrated a full Home Energy Management System built on Homey, tying smart meters, solar panels, home batteries and EV chargers together with its own appliances to shift when energy gets generated, stored and used.
LG is careful to caveat that the energy savings depend on usage, local tariffs and conditions, an asterisk worth taking seriously rather than skipping past for the headline pitch.
Chasing Buildings, Not Just Households
The other notable move is ThinQ Pro, making its European debut at IFA and aimed squarely at multi-family residential buildings and commercial properties rather than single homes. That's a different sales motion entirely, closer to a B2B facilities product than a consumer gadget, and it suggests LG sees more durable revenue in managing hundreds of units at once than in selling one more app to one household.
None of this has a confirmed Philippine timeline yet. The announcement is framed entirely around the IFA showcase in Berlin from September 4 to 8, with ThinQ Pro explicitly flagged as a European launch first.
