Dr. Stone ended its TV run on June 25, and less than four months later the franchise has already found a way back. The official anime site announced on October 10 that a new anime, Dr. STONE TERRAFORMING, is in production.
The reveal came at the STONE FES.2026 fan event, and it arrived with a teaser video featuring newly recorded lines from Senku.
An epilogue, not a new season
TERRAFORMING is not a continuation of the main plot, because the main plot is finished. The new anime adapts "TERRAFORMING," a post-finale episode collected in volume 27 of the manga, which picks up after the story's conclusion.
That makes this a different kind of announcement than the usual "season X confirmed." The TV series wrapped up the main story with its final stretch, Dr. STONE SCIENCE FUTURE, whose third cour began airing on April 2 on TOKYO MX and other stations. TERRAFORMING is the bonus chapter that fans who finished the manga already know, now getting the animated treatment.
What the creators said
Original author Riichiro Inagaki thanked the STONE FES.2026 crowd and teased that the story still has more to it, signing off with a line that translates roughly to "There's more to come!!"
Manga artist Boichi also thanked fans and promised further updates. Yuko Iwasa, the TV series' character designer, contributed a congratulatory illustration for the announcement.
The blanks
The announcement leaves almost everything practical unanswered. There is no format given, so it is not yet clear whether TERRAFORMING is a TV special, a short series or a film. There is no studio credit on the announcement, no premiere window and no word on streaming outside Japan.
A one-shot epilogue chapter is a small amount of source material, which points toward something short rather than a full cour. That is a reading of the source, not a confirmed detail, and the official site has only promised more information later.
For now, the teaser is the only new footage, and it is up on the official Dr. Stone anime site.
