hololive confirmed it was finally making a TV anime earlier this month. It just revealed what kind of show that actually is, and the format is a deliberate departure from how most VTuber-adjacent anime get built: no single protagonist, no central plot, just 29 hololive talents taking turns going on trips.
The official title is Odekake hololive, "Let's Head Out, hololive," built around omnibus travel stories that follow different talents exploring locations across Japan through the seasons. The tagline asks a simple question: "どこにいこっか?" ("Where shall we go?"). Cover Corporation is credited as the original work, with Studio KAI handling animation, Toshisuke Machiya directing, Masatoshi Tsuji on character design, and Studio KAI's own Yukihiro Minami handling series composition.
An omnibus format is a real structural bet
Building a first TV anime around 29 talents instead of a handful of leads is a harder show to pull off than it sounds. An omnibus format sidesteps the problem of picking favorites among a roster that large, since every talent gets a turn rather than a handful getting the spotlight while the rest make cameo appearances. It also means there's no ongoing plot thread pulling viewers from one episode to the next, which puts more pressure on each individual trip segment to work as its own self-contained piece.
That's a different bet than most talent-agency anime make. Shows built around a single idol or a small fixed group can lean on serialized character development. hololive's roster is the opposite problem: 29 personalities that already have established fanbases individually, and a format built to showcase each on their own terms rather than forcing them into a shared storyline that would inevitably favor some names over others.
What's still unconfirmed
The official site hasn't published a broadcast date, streaming platform, or episode count yet, only the title, key visual, director and character designer. Given how quickly this reveal followed the initial "hololive is making an anime" announcement, a fuller broadcast window is likely the next piece of information to land, but nothing on the official site points to a specific timeframe for that yet.
