Most anime premises need a monster, a tournament or another world. Hirayasumi needs a free house. The TV adaptation of Keigo Shinzo's manga premieres on NHK General in January 2027, and the official site just added five more names to its cast, including Daisuke Namikawa and Yoko Hikasa.
It's an unusual show to see on a winter lineup. There's no fight to win and no mystery to solve, just a 29-year-old with no career plan and a neighborhood that slowly becomes his life.
A 29-year-old, a single-story house and zero anxiety
Hiroto Ikuta is a 29-year-old freeter. He has no steady job, no partner and, as the official synopsis puts it, none of the worry about the future most people in his spot would have. Because he's such a genuinely nice guy, the elderly woman he befriended in the neighborhood, Hanae Wada, gives him her single-story house for free.
The story is set in Tokyo's Suginami ward, around neighborhoods like Asagaya and Koenji, and follows changing seasons and unchanging days. The title is a play on that setup: a "hiraya" is a one-story house, and "yasumi" means a break.
Who joined the cast
Yuma Uchida leads as Hiroto, with Rikako Aikawa as Hanae Wada. The five additions announced on October 13 are:
- Daisuke Namikawa as Hideki Noguchi
- Yoko Hikasa as Yomogi Tachibana
- Yume Miyamoto as Akari Yokoyama
- Yuichiro Umehara as Ryo Ishikawa
- Yuko Naito as the narrator
A narrator is a telling choice for a slice-of-life series. It suggests the adaptation leans into the quiet, observational tone the manga is known for rather than padding it out with drama.
The team at Production +h.
Production +h. handles animation. Kei Suezawa directs and also writes the series composition and scripts, so a single person is shaping the show's voice from top to bottom. Naoyuki Asano designs the characters, Mika Nishimura is art director and Kaori Sawada composes the music.
The manga runs in Shogakukan's Weekly Big Comic Spirits, with 10 volumes out so far. The official site also has a teaser PV and the main visual, both released on September 29.
Where it fits in the January lineup
A specific premiere date and international streaming plans, including for the Philippines, haven't been announced. For viewers who liked the slower, grounded end of recent anime seasons, it's one of the more distinctive 2027 shows to keep an eye on.
