AMD Announces new A620 Chipset for Ryzen 7000 Series

AMD has announced its new A620 chipset, which is designed to enable users to harness the power of the Ryzen 7000 Series processor line-up with the features and performance of the AM5 platform. The A620 chipset is the entry-level option for the AM5 platform, which supports DDR5 memory, PCIe 4.0 lanes, and AMD EXPO memory overclocking technology.

This is aimed at users who want to build a budget-friendly PC with the latest AMD Ryzen 7000 Series processors, which are based on the Zen 4 architecture and offer up to 16 cores and 32 threads of performance. The A620 chipset supports dual-channel DDR5 memory with AMD EXPO technology, which allows users to easily overclock their memory and boost their gaming and productivity performance.

The chipset also supports PCIe 4.0 lanes for graphics and NVMe storage devices, offering faster data transfer speeds and lower latency than PCIe 3.0. The A620 chipset does not support PCIe 5.0 lanes, which are available on the higher-end X670E and B650E chipsets. However, PCIe 4.0 lanes are still sufficient for most current graphics cards and NVMe drives.

There are also a lot of connectivity options, such as USB 3.2 Gen 2 ports with up to 10 Gbps of bandwidth, SATA ports for additional storage devices, and audio and networking features. The A620 chipset does not support Ryzen processor overclocking, which is enabled on the X670E, X670, B650E, and B650 chipsets.

Motherboards using this chipset will be compatible with all AMD Ryzen 7000 Series processors, which use the new AM5 socket. The AM5 socket is a new design that uses LGA (land grid array) instead of PGA (pin grid array), meaning that the pins are located on the motherboard instead of the processor. This makes the installation process easier and reduces the risk of damaging the processor pins.

The A620 chipset will be available in Q2 2023, along with the AMD Ryzen 7000 Series processors and AM5 motherboards from various manufacturers. The pricing of the A620 chipset motherboards has not been revealed yet, but it is expected to be around $85 USD, making it one of the most affordable options for the AM5 platform. The A620 chipset is a great choice for users who want to enjoy the benefits of DDR5 memory and PCIe 4.0 lanes without breaking the bank.
