Happy Kanako's Killer Life, Toshiya Wakabayashi's comedy about an office worker who quits a toxic job and accidentally lands a much better one at an assassins' company, is getting a TV anime in April 2027. The official site is now live with a teaser visual, a teaser video, the main cast and the core staff.

The person in charge is the most interesting part of the announcement. Shinji Takamatsu is directing and writing the scripts. He is the comedy veteran behind Gintama, Kochikame and Grand Blue, which is about as strong a résumé as a workplace gag series could ask for.

A "white company" that happens to kill people

The setup is the joke. Kanako Nishino burns out at a so-called black company, Japan's term for an exploitative employer, and job-hunts her way into a firm with a starting salary of ¥600,000, weekends and holidays off and full benefits. It turns out to be a hit-man outfit. The perks win, and she signs on.

The official site describes the series as a "career change to assassin" comedy. Kanako's new workplace includes a blunt and slightly terrifying senior named Sakurai, whose catchphrase is a threat to kill you, and a company president who looks intimidating but treats his staff very well.

Already a hit in print and live action

The manga started out going viral on social media as a comic that cheers readers up, according to the official site, and has passed 1.2 million copies in circulation. It also became a live-action drama series starring Non and Taisuke Fujigaya of Kis-My-Ft2. Nine volumes are out in Japan.

No streaming partner for the Philippines has been named yet. With an April 2027 premiere, expect a platform announcement closer to the Spring 2027 season.
