Solo Leveling is getting a movie. Crunchyroll announced Solo Leveling: Beyond the System at its annual showcase during Anime Expo 2026 on July 3, confirming the all-new theatrical anime feature is now in production and will continue the story directly after Season 2.
English dub voice actor Aleks Le, who plays Sung Jinwoo, walked on stage at the Peacock Theater in Los Angeles to deliver the surprise announcement to a crowd that had no idea it was coming. A teaser key visual and a promotional concept video were shown at the event. The film is being animated by A-1 Pictures, the studio behind the TV series (also known for Sword Art Online), and is co-produced by Aniplex, Netmarble, D&C MEDIA, Kakao Piccoma, and Crunchyroll. No release date or plot details beyond the direct sequel premise have been shared yet.
Ghost of Tsushima Legends Gets Its First Character Look
The showcase also unveiled the first character visuals for the upcoming Ghost of Tsushima Legends anime. The project was announced last year through a partnership between Crunchyroll, Aniplex, Sony Music, and PlayStation Productions. It follows one of the last remaining samurai defending Tsushima against the Mongol Empire.
The creative team is a strong one: Takanobu Mizuno is directing, Gen Urobuchi (Fate/Zero, Puella Magi Madoka Magica) is co-writing the script and handling story composition, Satoshi Maejima is co-writing, Takashi Okazaki is on character designs, and KAMIKAZE DOUGA is producing the animation. A premiere date has not been set.
More from the Showcase
Kagurabachi is confirmed for Crunchyroll in 2027, with attendees getting a first look at protagonist Chihiro Rokuhira's provisional character design sheet at the event. The Rising of the Shield Hero Season 5 is also heading to the platform in 2027, with a new teaser now available.
Also confirmed for 2027: Dengeki Daisy and Magical Buffs, both with world premiere trailers from the showcase. The Vermilion Mask is set for October 2026, and Overgeared arrives later this year.
One standout moment from the event: a video message from Dave Grohl revealed that Nirvana's "Breed" will serve as the opening theme for The Guy She Was Interested in Wasn't a Guy At All, launching in early 2027. Unexpected and hard to top as an Anime Expo surprise.
