Activision picked the same week Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4's Open Beta went live to publish its latest RICOCHET Anti-Cheat enforcement numbers, and the timing isn't a coincidence. Putting hard numbers on cheat enforcement right as a free, code-free beta opens the door to a wave of new and returning accounts is a deliberate trust play, not just a routine transparency update.

The numbers themselves: RICOCHET has disrupted more than 375 cheat reseller operations, issued over 80 cease-and-desist demands, and shut down more than 30 vendors outright. Team RICOCHET is also actively monitoring livestreams during the beta itself, watching for cheating in real time rather than waiting to process reports after the fact.

The Beta Doubles as a Stress Test

Modern Warfare 4's Open Beta ran from August 28 through September 1, no pre-order or beta code required, across Xbox Series X|S, Xbox on PC, PlayStation 5, Steam, Battle.net and Nintendo Switch 2. That's one of the widest platform spreads Call of Duty has opened a beta to, which also means it's the widest surface RICOCHET has had to defend at once. Activision is framing the weekend explicitly as a test of its defenses under real conditions ahead of the game's October 23 launch, when a new generation of RICOCHET tech comes online alongside it.

PC players got a preview of what launch will require: TPM 2.0 and Secure Boot had to be enabled before the beta even started. Both are Windows security features that make system-level tampering harder, and Activision is positioning them as part of RICOCHET's trusted foundation rather than an optional extra. Anyone who skipped enabling these for past Call of Duty betas will need to check their BIOS settings before launch day.

Whether the enforcement numbers translate into a noticeably cleaner beta is something players will judge for themselves. Activision has made similar claims ahead of past Call of Duty launches, with mixed results once a game reaches its full population at release. The full RICOCHET buildout arrives alongside Modern Warfare 4 when it launches on October 23.
