Most tower-climbing hunter anime give their lead an overpowered skill and move on. SSS-Class Revival Hunter attaches a catch to its version of that: the ability only activates if you die. Crunchyroll confirmed the anime adaptation of the Korean webcomic and web novel is premiering in January 2027, and it will stream in the Philippines alongside Indonesia, Singapore, Malaysia and the Indian subcontinent.
The story follows Gongja Kim, an F-rank Hunter in a world where a monster-filled tower draws people willing to risk their lives for glory and money. Gongja spends most of his time envying the Hunters who made it to the top. His break comes when he gains an S-rank copy skill: he has to die to trigger it. The Sword Emperor, once the tower's strongest Hunter, becomes his ghostly partner after Gongja copies the ability that put him in that state to begin with. It is a mechanic built around risk in a genre that usually treats power-ups as pure upside.
Crunchyroll released a teaser trailer and key visual alongside the announcement, along with the first cast details. Takeo Otsuka voices Gongja Kim and Satoshi Hino voices the Sword Emperor. Hiroaki Sakurai is directing, Sayuri Oba is writing the script, Takahiro Yoshimatsu is handling character designs, and STUDIO fu is producing the animation.
SSS-Class Revival Hunter has run on Piccoma since 2022 and consistently ranks near the top of the platform's fantasy section, with more than 25 million likes accumulated across its run. That track record is likely why Crunchyroll picked it up quickly relative to newer webcomic properties, and why the studio pairing (a first adaptation for STUDIO fu on a title this size) is worth watching once more of the production is revealed.
