Smart Communications, Inc. (Smart), the wireless unit of PLDT, has been recognized by Ookla®, a global leader in mobile and broadband network intelligence, as the Philippines’ fastest and best mobile network in the latest report. Smart has received the Best Mobile Network award from Ookla® for Q3-Q4 2022, making it the first and only mobile operator in the Philippines to receive this prestigious award. The accolade is a result of Smart winning the Fastest Mobile Network and Best Mobile Coverage awards in the same reporting period of Ookla.
According to Ookla’s report, Smart had the highest Speed and Coverage Scores, making it the Philippines’ fastest mobile network. With a Speed Score of 62.3, Smart led the competition with the closest competitor posting a Speed Score of 36.36. To win the Fastest Mobile Network award, Smart posted a median download speed of 31.04 Mbps and a median upload speed of 6.8 Mbps. In comparison, its closest competitors posted a median download speed of 20.22 Mbps and a median upload speed of 5.13 Mbps.
Smart also dominated the Best Mobile Coverage category with a Coverage Score of 795, surpassing its closest competitor’s Coverage Score of 757. The Coverage Score takes into account both the number of locations where an operator offers its services and the quality of service in each location, according to Ookla.
The Fastest Mobile Network award is based on over 2.9 million user-initiated tests, while the Coverage Award is based on more than 3.4 million scan counts. The report also showed that Smart outpaced its competitors in key cities across the country, being the Fastest Mobile Network in Quezon City, Cebu City, and Davao City.
