Ryzen 7040HS – AMD’s latest mobile processor brings AI features natively to Windows 11

AMD has just announced its new Ryzen 7040HS mobile processor, which is designed to offer high performance and efficiency for laptops running Windows 11. The Ryzen 7040HS is the first mobile processor to support native AI features on Windows 11, such as DirectML, Windows ML, and Azure Cognitive Services. These features enable faster and smarter applications that can leverage the power of machine learning and deep learning on the device.

The Ryzen 7040HS is based on the Zen 4 architecture, which delivers more instructions per cycle than the previous generation.

One of the key features of the Ryzen 7040HS is its AMD XDNA on-chip AI Processor, which have been enhanced with new AI capabilities. It can can accelerate AI operations, which are used by many Windows 11 apps to perform tasks such as image processing, video editing, gaming, and productivity. For example, the Ryzen 4070HS series can enable faster face detection, noise reduction, super resolution, and style transfer. It can also run Windows ML models, which are used by Microsoft apps such as Photos, Office, and Edge to provide intelligent features such as object recognition, text analysis, and translation. Additionally, the the on-chip AI processorcan access Azure Cognitive Services, which are cloud-based AI services that offer advanced capabilities such as speech recognition, natural language understanding, and computer vision.

The Ryzen 7040HS is expected to be available in select laptops from major OEMs in early 2022. AMD claims that the Ryzen 7040HS will offer up to 2x faster AI performance than the competition, as well as up to 25% more battery life and more gaming performance. The Ryzen 7040HS is part of AMD’s vision to bring AI to everyone, and to enable a new generation of intelligent and immersive experiences on Windows 11.
