The ASUS ROG Crosshair VIII Hero WiFi is the high-end motherboard meant for hardcore gamers and enthusiasts looking to push the third generation of Ryzen processors beyond their specs, and who could use all the extra features, ROG style.
In this article, we will take a look at how much performance can we get from the Ryzen 7 3700X with the Crosshair VIII Hero Wifi through Precision Boost Overdrive enhancements, as well as manual CPU and Memory overclocking.

The motherboard’s design follow the traditional ROG style: ROG armor with an RGB lit “HERO” logo on top of the I/O and massive heatsinks, black and grey color scheme. The heatsinks are much more massive than the Crosshair VI Hero that we looked at previously and brings a lot maturity in the AM4 platform in terms of ROG choices.
Other notable features are the LED Debug on the upper right, Supreme FX audio, and a ton of RGB and fan headers. There is also an actively cooled chipset heatsink extends to the M.2 slots and it also has a customizable ROG eye logo
This neutral design allows the user to customize their own color scheme without any problems thanks to AURA RGB.
VRM power delivery, overclocking
For the VRM, the X570 Crosshair VIII Hero Wifi has a 7+1 Phase VRM with the ASP1405 controller (something like the IR35201) with IR3555 power stages (60A) making a very effective configuration for high-end overclocking.
We were able to reach the hard limit of the Ryzen 7 3700x at 4.3Ghz with 1.37v on the vcore while being cooled by a Noctua NH-D15. For the memory, we were able to optimize our 2x8GB G.Skill Sniper X 3400mhz CL16 memory to 3600mhz CL13 while keeping it in 1:1 ratio with the FCLK freq at 1800mhz. This resulted to us having a high Cinebench scores: 5208pts on multi-core and 503pts on single core. At the time of this writing, the score is rated as #1 in the Ryzen 7 3700x ranking in Cinebench via HWBot.
CPU core enhancement performance
Here we will show you how the motherboard’s CPU core enhancement modes boosts the clock speeds of our Ryzen 7 3700x on stock settings compared to other X570 motherboards. We will include Cinebench scores for each core enhancement modes as well.

Here we can see the Ryzen 7 3700x getting a consistent boost up to 4.274Ghz on both single and multi-core with Precision Boost Overdrive. The ROG X570 Crosshair VIII Hero WiFi feeds up to 1.432v on the Ryzen chip.
The UEFI BIOS menus is going to be familiar for everyone who has used ASUS UEFI before. The availability of EZ Mode and Advanced mode definitely makes things easier.
The only thing that most people would be tweaking here would usually be the D.O.C.P. profiles for the memory, DRAM timings, CPU overclocking, Voltages, and importantly, FCLK Frequency.
ASUS’s Q-Fan control is also one of othe most comprehensive fan controls that i’ve seen in the market and it makes it easy to set different fan curves for each CPU/chassis fan. Knowing that the X570 Crosshair VIII Hero Wifi has a lot of fan headers, there’s a lot to play around with here.
ASUS ROG motherboards always looked good and I’ve always seen it this way since the mid 2000’s when I had my Rampage Formula and Blitz Extreme. Now in 2019, the Crosshair VIII Hero WiFi brings all the modern aesthetics and features in a solid package. With it’s high end power phases, we were able to max out our Ryzen 7 3700X to it’s hard limit while maintaining a record performance.
The only complaint I have with this motherboard is that the chipset fan tends to get blocked by a massive graphics card. BUt with that aside, with the amount of I/O the X570 chipset is offering, the ROG Crosshair VIII Hero WiFi delivers a lot of expandability and performance out of the box.
