The Acer Swift 3 on its own has a very stylish and premium form factor and the Iron Man design brings it to a whole different level. Of all the three Acer Marvel laptops, this has been our personal favorite because it has a very good balance of performance and aesthetics.
The unboxing experience of a Marvel edition laptop is very similar in all three models but the packaging is made unique with Marvel branding.
The package has all the usual paperwork, laptop charger, but the laptop sleeve is something that can also be found on the Marvel edition laptops with this one having the Iron Man artwork on it.
Sporting the red and gold color combination inspired by Iron Man, there is a distinct Iron Man Arc reactor design on the top lid but unfortunately, the gloss finish is a major fingerprint magnet. On top of the keyboard, you will see the Marvel Avengers logo and when you turn on the laptop, you will be greeted by a Marvel’s Avengers: Infinity War splash screen.
The laptop is packed with a quad-core eighth generation Intel Core i5 8250U, 8GB of RAM, and a Nvidia GeForce MX150 with 2GB dedicated graphics memory. For storage, it has a snappy 256GB Solid State Drive (SSD), which gives a fast and responsive user experience.
This laptop is just right and is a very good mobile device for work and play. It is not heavy to lug around unlike other laptops because of its 14” form-factor and the aluminum sides gives it a premium feel. The trackpad feels very nice to use as it uses precision drivers, and the typing experience with the backlit keyboard is exceptional with the keys having a pretty good tactile feel.
For connectivity, it has two USB 3.0, one USB 2.0, an SD Card reader, HDMI output, and an 802.11ac WiFi. The 14” 1080p screen has good viewing angles and has decent color reproduction, which can be mission critical for some applications. It also has a fingerprint reader.
The user experience is impressive as the Acer Swift 3 has enough RAM for multi-tasking, and a fast solid state drive that allows it to boot up and load programs very quickly. Gaming experience is decent enough as the Nvidia GeForce MX150 can handle some not-so-graphics-intensive games.
The laptop scored 3,275 points with the 3DMark Fire Strike benchmark, which is 10% better than other devices in its class. On Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six: Siege, a popular e-sports game, we were able to achieve an average of 40 frames per second in Full-HD resolution with graphical settings set to high. Unfortunately, with a much more intensive game like Ghost Recon: Wildlands, we were only able to get an average of 20 frames per second with the same resolution and high-graphical settings. It is almost unplayable since for a game to be considered playable, it has to achieve at least a consistent 30 frames per second minimum.
Overall, we dubbed the Acer Swift 3 as our personal favorite because it is a decent performer in both productivity for office work, browsing, and basic gaming. The size of the laptop is just right as it is easy to lug around and the battery life is extremely decent as well which lasted us around 8 hours on a full day of work and play.
